The coronavirus is spreading rapidly across the globe and here in the UK, Monday 23rd March saw the announcement that we would be in "lockdown' for the next 21 days.
The reality of this has been such a rollercoaster of emotions...
Most employees were being encouraged to work from home (wfh in corporate diary speak ;)) from Monday the 16th March. Schools were closed on Friday 20th.
There has been a very steady increase in changes to our world and now we find ourselves working through so many new things.
I recorded this video on Wednesday evening, after two days of lockdown, as I wanted to capture a) where my head was and b) share some of my observations.
We are all going through a huge range of emotions. It is normal. We are humans. We like and need to connect. We enjoy our freedom.
We have been very accustomed to doing what we want, when we want.
We are busy living lives that we think others expect of us..
Now we are finding everything turned upside down. It is uncomfortable.
Fortunately the weather has been glorious and spring is just emerging with bird song and changes daily. We now have time to notice.
From a work perspective, we are all finding new ways of doing things. For families at home with both parents working from home and the children attending online classes, or needing home schooling the changes have been significant.
I've worked from home for years, but this feels different for me too. There is a different energy in the air. There is a palpable fear when you see the latest news broadcast.
There is a quietness. A stillness even.
Someone likened it to the moment when the wave have gone out before the tsunami hits...
I am human too.
I try to share positive things and keep guiding people towards the joy and peace in their own lives.
I work with people who are struggling with stress and anxiety, from a variety of situations.
I've seen plenty, heard more and still I find myself being wobbled...
I have the most amazing clients, many of whom have been able to continue and are finding great solace in having the tools and discussions we share.
To be perfectly honest. The time I have spent with my clients over the past ten days has been my stabilising force. Being busy and focused on doing something that makes a real difference for someone else, really helps get the balance.
We will all emerge from this as better people. We will have learnt so much about ourselves. We will have laughed and cried. We will have felt the vulnerability of being human. We will have connected with our families and friends in ways we couldn't have envisaged. We will have found new ways of working. We will have found new ways of being.
Every cloud has a silver lining. At times it is really hard to see past the dark stormy skies.
It is tough and I will do what I can to support you.
