There is no "right" way to feel as we navigate our own journey

covid19 wellbeing Apr 03, 2020

It's ok to not be ok....

It's essential to honour you and choose to do what is right for you...

It's necessary to think differently and find some creative alternatives..

Get Britain Talking is such a great campaign from ITV and really important always, but especially right now...

Find new ways to do things, new ways to connect, new ways to create the space and time to do things that are important to you.

Some ideas and thoughts that have materialised over the last couple of days include;

  • establishing a routine - I have a webinar on this which I will share soon, after it was well received last weekend by the community that I was talking with
  • connect with others - call people you haven't spoke to for a while, chat to you friends, set up online group get togethers
  • think differently - there are no rules, aside from Stay Home, so get creative, be inspired, see what others are doing, explore things you haven't done for ages because you haven't had the time.., use Google and YouTube to learn new things
  • if you could step back from your normal busy life for three months what would you do with your gift of time? Please don't get to the end of this time and look back disappointed with all the things you didn't achieve...
  • be curious and allow your mind to look at the weird and wonderful things that you haven't even thought vaguely possible
  • look at the massive range of exercise options popping up and choose one/some and try them out
  • explore other ways of reading - there are so many options now, paperback, hardback, kindle, audio, just explore different options and be inspired and/or engaged with the story - find a selection of my recommended reads
  • explore different meditation options and see what works for you - meditation is about being quiet and taking time to stop "buzzing" for a moment
  • focus on your own self care - it will be differently for each of us but make sure that you spend time with you

For those working from home;

  • be sure to create a work space that is defined and separate from your living space
  • if you are using you kitchen table then close things up at the end of the day, do not leave your work things spread all over your living space
  • also try to avoid working in your bedroom - a sleep space is not a good space to work, it is your haven to rest and recover..
  • set up a coffee chat with your friends, colleagues and group of you where you can stop for 15-20 minutes and just connect with others - there are so many tools available to do this now, use them and stay connected
  • be very careful about your working hours... stop when it is family time and re-engage with your family
  • move frequently, sitting for hours on end is really bad for all of us!
    • I like to take a 15 second break every 20 minutes to stretch and yawn, more on why yawn another time..
    • take a minute to get up and move every hour, fill up you brew, stand in the sun and feel the warmth on your face, do some HIT (20 secs running as fast as you can, on the spot, followed by 10 secs jogging, and repeat), this is an awesome energiser
    • take your daily outdoor exercise if you can, or get out in the garden, on your balcony, and breathe in this amazingly fresh air with the lowest pollution levels we have seen for decades!

There are so many options and different ways to care for you, your loved ones and your environment. Take time to consider what is right for you. Try new things. Be adventurous. Be curious. Be discerning with experience.

Our primary focus right now is self care, look after you as a priority. Be careful to consider and spend time doing things that are a) good for you and b) feel good, you need to be looking after you.

With love as we head towards weekend #2
